  1. Found another one today posted in the business section of CL

    http://catchsomewaves.vacationmedia.net/

Notice on the main page "travel like a pro"

So its complete BS that they are doing anything about these people joining simply for benefits sake.

And if I woulda had time I woulda listened to the Seligman call..but I can't right now...maybe later when I need a good laugh

  2. The Seligman call is a laugh. The into was like 10 minutes just saying what he "did" and blah blah blah.

The rest was "i am a PhD and I say YTB is good so you must buy it"

Travel Agency Owner Convicted of Fraud posted 7:07 pm Tue January 08, 2008

A former Botetourt County travel agency owner is in jail, after being sentenced for credit card fraud. Donnie Wayne Hudgins was sentenced to 10 years in jail, but a judge suspended all but three months. State sentencing guidelines for his five felony convictions only called for probation. But Hudgins will be doing that too for 4 years. He also has to complete 50 hours of community service.

Prosecutors believe Hudgins stole more than $100,000 from his customers at Botetourt Travel. He paid $5,200 in restitution Tuesday morning. His Daleville business is now closed, and Hudgins has declared bankruptcy.

There are several other lawsuits pending against him.

  5. The above people must be "rogue" agents and don't know they are not supposed to do the "travel like a pro" pitch anymore, sadly there are lots of them on CL. All spouting the same pitch, and all ignoring the CL rules which state not to promote their business on site.

  6. Unlike the above mentioned agent who ran off with someone else's mponey, YTB "agents" should have someone to answer to. While I would never make excuses for someone who commits a crime, YTBers keep making the same false claims and the home office continues to ignore it.

How does "travel like a pro" equate into someone joining "simply for benefits sake" ? Do you always just yack and yack ????

THe issue I have is the "access perks available only to travel professionals". Nothing about BECOMING a travel professional to get the perks--just getting access to them without being one.

Learn how to deduct your vacations--completely illegal.

Again, cruise whatever you are showing your ignorance. You need a valid IATAN card and a minimum dollar amount of sales to qualify for fam trips. Fam trips are not vacations. They are working trips. You do site inspections, check out restaurants, amenities etc. You do a lot of walking sometimes. You do not sit in the sun reading the latest Grisham novel or sip umbrella drinks. Furthermore, destinations like Cancun are making it mandatory you complete their coursework, have a valid IATAN card which has to be verified by your agency owner AND sell at least 5 packages to Cancun. Same with Carnival they have cracked down on the perks. No one gets deals any more and the discounts are not all that they are cracked up to be either. As for turn your vacation into a tax deduction again you are showing your ignorance.

As for the rogue agent, that happens in any profession. A pediatrician in my city molested kids. A pediatrician for God's sake!! Does that mean all pediatrician's are bad??? NO! Not ALL travel agents are bad. However, YTB whines they want to be legit, keeps promising everyone in the trades they are cleaning up their act and this constant crap of misinformation and recruiting the downline and the hell with actually selling travel goes on and on and on....

    ReplyDelete
  12. They could be relating to the fact that certain "perks" are only available to "travel professionals" - which by joining a company like ytb, one could be considered a "travel" professional. It all depends on the person and their desires . . .

    Vacations tax deductible - illegal?

If one conducts business while on vacation, and their intent is to "do" business - ie: hand out business cards, take phone calls, send / receive emails, make presentations, etc - then portions of the "travel" could be deducted. The key is to not deem the trip a "vacation" but rather a "retreat".

You gotta learn a lot johnny about what being an independent contractor or a small business owner / operator is all about.

  13. Tom your the one that likes to yack. These RTA's are spewing the information that YTB professes to be stopping. The 'travel like a pro' bullchit.

"Access perks available only to travel professionals
    Turn vacations into tax deductions"

Both are not VALID. In order to access those supposed perks, you should be actively selling travel, but that part is left off. And you cannot turn all your vacations into deductions if you are not doing business on them. Those parts are mysteriously left off. Does she have - " you have to sell $1500 of travel before you can get the perks" No!.

Again, you've mistaken me for someone who gives a shit what you think. And I'd rather be an "old hen" whos got more experience in this industry then you ever will, then a Jackass. So Cluck you :)

Not in most instances chicky . . .

There are dozens of fams where you just need a business card. You new to the travel industry? Or - just ill informed?

Many in prior companies have enjoyed fams and discounted travel by simply being a travel agent - referring or otherwise.

Get off your soap box. Once gain - you're showing your ignorance crack head . . .

  16. lisa, lisa - why so bitter sweety?

You my dear - are mistaken with your assumptions . . .

you said - " I'd rather be an "old hen" who's got more experience in this industry then you ever will "

Look sweety - I ran a multi-million dollar travel enterprise of which you couldn't have washed my jock strap. Your minor experience as an agent wouldn't compare on an annual basis for what I had accomplished in a single day.

LOL @ an old hen comparing her maybe if she's lucky $100k a year income to what I have produced in the travel industry.

    Too funny . . .

    " So Cluck you :) "

LOL - that's the only thing you've ever said that made any sense.

  17. You know what Tom you really have mental issues.

If you look in the yellow pages under mental health or social services you can find providers that can help you. Some will take you on a sliding scale.

    LOL!

Now - let me guess, your uncle is an IRS agent?

Business is simple - cut and dry. Income in - expenses out. When you run a business properly you have people make sure everything is in order. Thus the reason people employ a CPA. Not just an everyday accountant - but a CPA.

  19. Tom---you have already said in another forum that you have no travel industry experience and it is all Network Marketing.

So your knowledge of the industry is always going to be suspect especially when it is becoming evident that you are not too much of a success in the network marketing business either.

No johnny - that isn't what I said in the tw forum. I said other than running my travel mlm, which produced millions in travel sales in the late 90's I haven't had any other travel related experience.

Why would you say that johnny?

NWM, like travel, is so easy - even a monkey could do it. I had great success in NWM. I haven't been involved with NWM for years as an active rep.

I was going to start another travel one - but, was wiser than I even knew and decided to wait.

  22. LMAO, whats with the "bitter" and "old hen" references. Can you guys not think of something better. Tom, what is the name of this supposed "travel" company you ran that made multi-million dollars in travel? Do tell. Running travel with an MLM does not count. Doing travel on a website does not count. Using a GDS, knowing the rules, decifering codes, knowing how to manually rate an RTW etc is what I refer to.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lisa--have you ever been to a pizza shop or a Chinese take out? Ever see those "sweepstakes" forms usually on top of the trash cans or on the counter?

You know, fill this out for a free vacation...

Well Tom was responsible for putting those pads and cardboard boxes in these stores in Georgia.

The company of course likely sold hundreds of millions in time shares but Tom? Come on now.

Tom apparently has enough knowledge to know how to purchase a domain, but beyond that, he knows nothing--take a look at eZ Trips. Wow, now talk about a compelling site that just makes you want to throw money at Tom!

I think Tom and EAB may be two peas in a pod--blowhards with opinions completely unsubstantiated by facts.

He has the MLM mantra down though--if you are not with us you are against us and when you are against us, call them names. Never support anything you say with fact.

    You old hen....

  24. Tom is down to calling people retarded now, Lisa. Best we just let him live in his bubble since he doesn't seem to be able to hold an adult conversation...

  25. Tom never ran any million dollar travel business. MLM or not. Don't bother arguing the point with him.

He makes all this up so others will think he has 'credentials' and is qualified to comment on the industry. More pipe dreams are 'coming soon.'

  27. Again, the TTA's are pissed because their vacation "secret" has been found out!
I bet that there isn't a TTA here who doesn't write off their vacations in taxes. You are all such honest people - NOT! I can hear the audtiors knocking on your door now.

    ReplyDelete
  28. IT was never a secret. And to be honest, I know very few people in the industry that will write off a vacation. FAMs and legitimate site inspections and previews of course.

But packing the YTB checklist does not make it a deductible business expense.

I will say that once a year I visit international clients and will take a kid along with me. It is about 50-50 business and pleasure. Guess what? 50% is written off and the other 50% is a vacation.

See, this is a new concept for a lot of you--integrity!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have never, ever, written off a vacation. Even though I do answer calls from clients and have my laptop with me to check things for them.
