EDIT: Corrected spacing. Also, if you follow the last link (just above), there is a phrase in that ad that reads:
Our Partners who believe in us:
*Travelocity *Dell *Staples *H & R Block *Sprint (which all give a very big discount when you become part of the company)
*Restaurant.com (purchase your own gift certificates at 50% & get paid commission)
*Aisle 19 (600 + Retails stores like Walmart, Target, Petsmart, Macys, Sams, etc...paying cash back, no sales tax + commissions on your own purchases & others you invite to your website
*Hotels.com
*UPS
Interesting...no mention of any travel companies that believe in them!

  1. So many things wrong with that I dont know where to start. However, when did YTB become a solely CHRISTIAN ONLINE AGENCY? Do they not take the money from jews, athiests, muslims or any other religious sect?

Again, just because someone was a preacher doesn't make him honest. Way too many ministers, priests etc are very disturbed and evil people. A few televangelists were simply disgusting and scam artists. Religion and travel have nothing to do with one another unless your planning a pilgrimage.

  2. John,
Once again thanks for policing the net for us. There is so much wrong with that ad, I wouldn't even know where to start. but because of your service to YTB on this blog, we are able to get the bad and misleading ads removed.

  3. Lisa, I would agree with most of what you say other than your last sentence.....in the industry you should know that religious travel is a fairly large niche within the travel industry.

  4. Once again, using God as a celebrity endorsement is just plain sleazy. I can't believe that they advertised this as a job! If they were really the upstanding Christians they are pretending to be wouldn't they specify that it's a pyramid scheme?

  5. John,
Although I disagree with most of the ad, your edited part is funny. "No travel companies that agree with them???"
The ad specifically mentioned travelocity and hotels.com

I know you don't think YTB is a travel company. Now I know why. You don't think hotels.com or travelocity are travel companies either.

  6. Josh, Travelocity and Hotels.com are essentially travel agencies. Travelocity IS and they provide a hell of a lot more service than YTB ever has or likely ever will. Hotels.com is a travel agency specializing in hotels only.

They are both consumer sites and it sounds ridiculous to say that the competition "believes" in YTB.

I have not been to the Macy's site lately, but I am sure that it does not list Nordstrom's, Dillard's, and Bloomingdale's as companies that believe in Macy's.

What about this.....our partners include such well known and respected brands such as:
    Royal Caribbean Cruises
    Celebrity Cruises
    Azamara Cruise Line
    Norwegian Cruise Line
    Perrillo Tours
    Qantas Vacations

We are certified or accredited by the following industry associations:
    IATAN
    ASTA
    OSSN
    NACTA
    PATH

Our upper management has many years in the travel industry and is universally well respected.

No, all YTB can say is that they have a contract with UPS, H&R Block, Aisle 19, and two consumer travel sites!

  7. John,
My only comment was that YOU stated that travelocity and hotels.com weren't travel companies. That was my point. I totally disagree with the ad, I have made that clear. Certainly she could have stated all the preferred travel parteners that YTB has, that would have been better.
I see your point about the partners and industry associations, but she could have done a much better job with the ad.

  8. Josh,

I know that religious travel is a niche, thats basically what I was saying as "if your booking a pilgrimage". Maybe it wasnt the best way to word it. Specializing in religious travel is great, but promoting your WHOLE company as a Christian Organization is wrong. If I worked for YTB and saw this ad I would be pissed off as a non christian.

  9. I also love how shes getting "back" over $15,000 from the IRS for last year.

  10. Josh, John should have said "travel suppliers" instead of "travel companies" and then it would be technically correct. Thank-you for your excellent editorial job.

  11. Sherri and Lawrence need to call up Mom and ask her how to write a help wanted ad.

  12. Let's not forget that Rev. Coach, the fine upstanding pastor that he is tried to sell shares in Elvis plane the "Lisa Marie" to his flock as a fund raiser. And, then there is the oil additive scheme....

    ReplyDelete
  13. Gee, why can't I get back $15,000 from my uncle??

  14. I do agree with John having pointed this ad out. The first thing that strikes me is the income stated. Absolutely a violation on top of other things.
