Revised YTB Commissions From ALL Vendors--Shhhh, It's A Secret!

Well apparently, the edict from Wood River did not take hold as two RTAs (David and Sherri Ogg who are DIRECTORS and also teach the First Class Training) have made a fantastic post outlining all of the confidential commissions that various travel vendors pay to YTB. Of course this blog will be removed within a few hours of this posting, so catch it while you can.

What is interesting is that they are still claiming that WCT is the fulfillment engine behind the air and car rentals. And noticeably absent from this list, is Globus and Cosmos. Could they have been one of the suppliers who may have decided to end their "partnership" as I suggested in early December? Globus has not been active with YTB since mid-November.

But I am confident that Carnival, Norwegian, Cunard, Holland America, Costa, Disney, Princess, Auto Europe, Crystal, Apple Vacations, Collette Vacations, Pleasant Holidays, Trafalgar Tours, Travel Impressions, Disney, and Travel Guard all appreciate that David and Sherri Ogg have let the world know just how much money can be earned in YTB.

And what is the deal with all the potions and lotions. I thought YTB was a "travel" company, just taking a quick look, it seems that travel only represents about 40% of their "business"--and I am being generous there.

In this economy, where we are looking for the consumer's discretionary income, do the travel suppliers really want to compete with Modern Rugs, Checks Unlimited and a Chinese Laundry?

  1. What kind of an idiot thinks it's a good idea to post agent commissions on a public forum???

I did a google search for "ytb commissions" and was stunned at how many blogs and websites YTB has posted with commission rates and false earnings statements. So much for the gag order. Maybe Coach doesn't know how to use Google.

  3. Why are there 2 commissions shown for Disney 15% and 10%?

  4. Nice Try John... I just logged in to my Travel Portal, and the Rates you copied and published are so outdated.
It's a shame that you EXPLOIT DUMB people for your own agenda.
How many puppies did you kick on the way to work this morning?
I hope your having a great day...

  5. If you followed the link it was divided out by cruise and tour. 15% is Disney Cruise Lines.

I did cut out some headers to save space when posting!

  6. Why is it Johns fault for the idiots who post this crap from YTB? Again, whine to your own kind about their foolish behavior. Nobody should be posting commission levels on any public site or forum, and I hope the suppliers see it as well.

Remember, YTB also reaps what they sow.!

  7. Its not his Fault for what these IDIOTS are publishing.
He gets his jollies off by EXPLOITING them.

I AGREE, no one should post commission RATES.
Even if they are not accurate and up to date.

We ALL REAP what we SOW... not just YTB...
    Not just John...
    ALL OF US...

GOD BLESS US ALL and have MERCY on our SOULS.

  8. Well, considering that their blog was taken down last week and re-appeared this week and the post is dated January 2, 2009, I have to say it is pretty current. I mean you only added the butcher, baker and candlestick maker in the last few weeks!

I also verified the commissions with someone else in their "back office" so the numbers are indeed accurate. Maybe you are unable to read? Don't understand? Or just a liar? (Wanna guess my vote?)

No puppies were harmed in this post.

  9. As a matter of fact, the Oggs are DIRECTORS with YTB. One might think they would know better. But if they are so "dumb" as you suggest, how did they become DIRECTORS and HEROS?

Check it out,David Ogg is listed as a "hero" third in kine behind Coach on this MySpace page!

  10. Look, here is an official YTB announcement about FIRST CLASS TRAINING (October 2008)being taught by none other than the "dumb people" David Ogg a DIRECTOR.

    http://www.yourtravelbiz.com/rta/CRTAs.htm

Yourtravelbiz.com is an official YTB site isn't it?

    So who is lying?

  12. "Why are there 2 commissions shown for Disney 15% and 10%?"

Most likely: 10% for Walt Disney World and Disneyland, 15% for Disney Cruise Line.

  13. So a director, who is also the guy who is teaching the future of YTB is the same person who posted YTB commissions rates on the internet?? Interesting. Shouldn't someone who is supposed to be teaching others the ways of YTB know how freaking tacky it is to post commission rates, and that no REAL travel agent would ever do something so incredibly tacky? Gee sign me up for that class. Is it "how to make a complete ass out of yourself while selling flowers and meat products"?

Bwa-hahahahaha! This is too funny, especially since the blog was posted on January 2 of THIS YEAR, at 4:16 in the AFTERNOON! LESS THAN 72 HOURS AGO, you putz! The chances that all these commission rates changed over a WEEKEND are nil!

I guess that despite the protestations to the contrary, the information that I got from ED in the compliance office at ytb is true. They really ARE selectively enforcing the new policies and procedures, and against whom! I mean, just check Dougies blog. Has ytb all over it!

  15. What's even more disturbing is that Traveling Mom is still representing YTB and has 3 blogs going now.

So that I can be politically correct, when a person enters the travel industry and are learning the ropes, educating themselves and doing what they are supposed to do, what is the title they use that is acceptable?

  18. NMH and Denyse, for today, why don't we stay on topic? This is a major thing. There is a DIRECTOR out there who is publishing confidential information on the internet, for all the world to see, 18 days AFTER the newest policies and procedures went into effect. Included in those policies and procedures are direct wordings prohibiting just this type of thing, yet here it is. One would think that a DIRECTOR would know this.

It also calls into question the communication that I had with the compliance office where an employee stated to me that they are NOT selectively enforcing the new policies and procedures, yet 18 days AFTER they go into effect, here is this blog by a DIRECTOR. Now, since a DIRECTOR owns this blog, and has published this confidential information, are they or are they not selectively enforcing the newest and most stringent policies and procedures?

Can someone email that info to me please. I really want to know. Thanks!

  20. And, viola, within 45 minutes of me questioning Wood River about the apparent selective enforcement, the blog is now gone.

  21. Isn't it interesting that all the pro-ytbers, Josh, Doug, FireMedic, etc., have been silent on this issue? Not one of them have made a peep on this, not even to condemn the Oggs? Wonder why that is? Can't be because they're afraid of sanctions, since they have been active on the blog and online in the last couple of days. Hmmmmm, sometimes silence is louder than words.

    You info is incorrect.
Travel Commission rates are not even located in the BACKOFFICE, so your source is not reliable.

Anyway I thought you would have learned your lesson about INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.

Um, "travel agent", if this information isn't correct and supposed to be confidential, why did Wood River have the blog yanked so quickly, and why did they thank me for alerting them to it?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Because NO TRAVEL COMMISSIONS whether up to date or not should be posted.
Why hasn't John edited his post to remove it.
He's not helping any Travel Agents either.
He's hurting the whole industry giving TTA's everywhere a bad reputation by showing how MALICIOUS TTA's can be when they have their feelings hurt.
Anyway, I wonder who gave John permission to copy and post that info.
He already got into trouble for the domain redirect thing. He needs to brush up on intellectual property laws.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am well versed on intellectual property laws. And posting on the internet on a public site is fair game. No puppies (or logos) were harmed in the creation of this post.

I am curious about the domain redirect thing you have mentioned. What's that all about?

    ReplyDelete
  26. OK, "travel agent", you're saying that the info that John posted is incorrect. My question to you is, if it is incorrect, why did Wood River move so quickly to have the blog removed, and thank me for bringing it to their attention?

Why did a DIRECTOR violate 5 different policies of the newest policy and procedures manual to post this information, outdated or not, a full 18 days AFTER the new policies went into effect?

Who has been malicious? Unless you consider the desire to alleviate untrained people from this industry as being malicious.

No one needed to give John permission to post what he did today. As far as I know, the blog was not copyrighted, and nothing in his original post is copyrighted, so can you please explain where any intellectual property laws were broken? Would love to hear your take on it, and where you got your law degree from.

    You obviously have comprehension issues...

    Directors are not RTA's
    They are REP's.
The new policies only affect RTA'S...
So the DIRECTORS did not violate the (LETTER OF) THE LAW since a DIRECTOR is only a REP and the LAW was written for RTA's.

    Can you say DUH? DUH?

  30. Melvin--the Oggs are RTAs as well. They have a booking site and as a matter of fact they are instructors for First Class Training. Remember that is the class all about TRAVEL.

You aren't insinuating that YTB would put a recruiter in to do travel training if they were not doing the travel business are you?

Please figure out which way you woudl like it. Remember you cannot have it both!

    ReplyDelete
  31. But was their blog setup with intentions of recruitment or selling travel?
I would argue that the BLOG was setup for the recruiting part of the business, therefore they were operating as REPS when the posting of the commissions rates occurred.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oooh Melvin--you are a smart one. Why not call Coach and see if he can hire you for September 21st. I am sure that defense will work well in California.

So, let's say a child molester is at a cocktail party with no children. I assume you believe that completely negates the fact that he is a child molester?

Or what if a minister was running a scam. Does it mean when he is a minister that he is not a scammer. And that when he is a scammer he is not a minister? If so, that might explain SO much!

You YTBites sure do have a strange train of thought.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Melvin, if what you say is true, then I will ask you this question. If the Oggs blog was not in violation of any policy and/or procedure, why did Wood River have it pulled down so quickly, and why did a highly placed person in the compliance office thank me for alerting them to the existance of the blog?
