Well, as I suggested, it did not take long for others to begin to wonder if something was amiss in Wood River.
The Illinois Attorney General has launched an investigation of YTB and is charging them with defrauding investors. Of course there was no comment from YTB.
I wonder if the shady dealings between Beryl-Martin and YTB will come to light now since one of the companies is headquartered in the state. Remember, Beryl Martin is owned by the two Tomers and Sorensen!

And during their convention no less. It just keeps getting better and better.
ReplyDeleteSorry Mixed, but you better get fitted for that paper hat and find you an employee parking space at Walmart.
Wow, that didn't take long at all. How long before each state looks at this and launches its own, or even the Feds?
ReplyDeleteJust reported in the ST. Louis biz journal about all the BBB complaints against them....
ReplyDeleteOne of which, named ANa temple in the article has major holes in it.
ReplyDeleteFirst, a FAMILY FRIEND told her about it. She signed up thinking she was going to get a 60% comission on her flight???
The friend didn't tell her?
So, she contacted YTB directly and the company told her that it is 60% of what YTB gets....That is true....no problem there.
She also claimed that YTB never told her about the 5 day period to "undecide" That is total BS, when you sign up online it is part of the terms. YTB Has it there and the individual has to click that he/she read those terms before even continuing.
Seems to me that this family friend either forgot to say what was correct or the individual just didn't pay attention.
But, in this particular case someone shed some light for me....how is this YTB's fault at all?
I know most of you (TTAs) that post here are at least clear thinking.....tell me about that story.
Just there you made our point Josh. This friend a YTB RAT/REP, "forgot to say what was correct". That's EXACTLY the problem. No control, and the REP/RTA, told her about all the perks. Are you honestly going to claim this as another "rogue" RTA/REP? Thats the problem the top can't control them. And with recruiting people will say whatever they can to make the "opportunity" sound great as to get those bonus checks for recruiting, since thats the only way to make some decent money in YTB. Just like we have been saying all along. That's for confirming this.
ReplyDelete"First, a FAMILY FRIEND told her about it. She signed up thinking she was going to get a 60% comission on her flight???
ReplyDeleteThe friend didn't tell her?"
Have you been under a ROCK Josh? The big push on recruiting is to family and friends. Secondly, they don't tell the truth. They say anything to get them to sign up. This has been documented from day one on this blog. Go back and read the archives. Plus, several of us have actually been recruited or gone to recruiting meetings. It's a free for all and it is allowed to go on. YTB has no control over the reps they bring in, never have, never will. And, the fact they don't screen people ie basic background check or credit check means they take anyone. They advertised, advertised all over the place till they got busted, "From Jail to Yale.."
Josh---thank you for providing the information needed to assign Doe #1.
ReplyDeleteJosh,
ReplyDeleteWe see that all the time from people on here. Many that have signed on to YTB think that they are getting 60% of the sale price. Many don't understand that they get 60% of the commission. We've seen reps post here that didn't understand the difference but were going on and on about how wonderful the opportunity was to sign up as a RTA. When reality hits they usually run away with their tail between their legs. If they don't understand how can they properly sell the opportunity to others?
Another misconception (and this is splitting hairs) is that YTB earns commission on airline tickets and TTAs do not.
ReplyDeleteNo, YTB is assessing a fee (via Travelocity)of $10 just like a TTA and of course the RTA gets 60% of it or $6.
How is it YTB's fault? Simple - they need to maintain control over who can join YTB. Responsible host agencies require that independent contractors sign up directly with the agency, not through an agent that signed up with another agent that signed up through yet another agent that signed up with the host.
ReplyDeleteSome host agencies go as far as vetting agents, and only accepting those that are serious about SELLING TRAVEL. As a result the host agencies are very successful and their independent contractors are very successful.
YTB is only interested in how many people they can sign up - not if they are serious about selling travel.
