Blockbuster Convention Announcements

We heard the hype and now here is the reality. Here are four of the blockbuster announcements from the convention:

  1. There is an enhanced Rep site. For a monthly fee of only $14.95, you'll gain access to one of the most powerful recruiting tools in YTB. Not only will prospects be impressed by the innovative design, they'll be able to see what YTB is all about through the Media Center!
  2. You can buy a DVD. In a slowing economy where the price of gas is nearly $4 a gallon, many Americans are hurting financially. Give them an answer to their needs with this informative DVD, which explains why they should look into owning their own business with YTB and "Recession-Proof" their income! Available soon from your Back Office!
  3. The bonuses are being tweaked. Here at YTB, we want to give you every opportunity to succeed! That's why during this year's convention, we've enacted this one-time only Reset Bonus! Basically, everyone will be working on their first set of six towards a $1,000 Leadership Bonus. Don't worry, you won't lose anyone, you just won't have to worry about fall-off on the ones you've already earned a bonus for.
  4. Coach was in a magazine. One of the most prestigious magazines in the country has chosen Coach to be on the cover! The Saturday Evening Post, the longest running continually published magazine in the history of the United States, has selected Coach to be on their 2008 Special August edition. The magazine features a four-page article on Coach's life and gives you an inside look behind his vision to create 10,000 millionaires. Available soon in your Back Office. Price: $4 each.
Whole lot of travel info out there. But let me comment on a few items.

I thought the current websites were the best in the industry. Now they want to take a "free" opportunity and charge $14.95 per month. And this one is good for your "prospects" to see about YTB. I think prospects can see enough about YTB by googling them to be honest. And this seems like it might more clearly define YTB as a pyramid....taking money for recruiting only.

Buy a DVD and recruit more people. Instill the fear of the recession in them and learn how to bilk them for $449 and $49.95 a month. And if you are good, you can sell them the upgraded website.

The bonuses are being reset. This is a key point. In the old system if you had a power team of 6 people and two dropped out, you needed to recruit 2 to reclaim that status and then recruit 6 more to get your next bonus. They are resetting this so that if 2 drop out, you do not need to replace them with 8 you can just get 6. This is damage control. With the news this past week, there will be plenty of people dropping out. And when they drop, the income of the upline is affected and then they will drop. That's the way the pyramid crumbles. But by not requiring a replacement of the drop outs, they are hopefully holding onto some of the upline. Very shrewd on the part of YTB. I wonder how many of the Reps will get it?

And Coach was on a magazine. While I have not seen the magazine yet in the stores, I am not wondering if it was not a paid cover. YTB refers to it as a "Special" edition. Perhaps they did a special cover and inserted the story in the magazine for the convention. Anyhow, you can buy it for $4. If anyone has seen the August issue in a market other than St. Louis, let me know who is on the cover. My suspicions are now leaning toward a paid cover and story. But I guess if you can't get good press you might as well buy it!

So, where was all the wonderful travel training and the travel announcements? If you want to see a video of the convention, it is accessible in the new Rep site link above. Or click here.

  1. This is what they call a "blockbuster" announcement? Really? I just cleaned the lint out of my dryer, and found it more interesting.

  2. Hey Douggie, I went down to my local Barnes and Noble. Guess what? No Crotch on the cover. I guess your "information" was wrong, you have been duped once again and your a LIAR. Put a spin on that one ole boy.

Just stopping in briefly. Travel training and travel announcements (which will include a brand new travel site) are dedicated to the travel trade show to be held September 11 and 12 in orlando! And don't people normally keep things fresh and updated??? There was nothing wrong the with the old site except it needed to be updated. That's business! ;-)

  4. Yes, but do you get this new fresh and updated site as part of your $49.95 monthly fee?

  5. "Yes, but do you get this new fresh and updated site as part of your $49.95 monthly fee?"

The $49.95 fee is for the RTA opportunity, which by the way is reimbursed, thereby costing nothing when qualified. The fresh updated site is the marketing opportunity. We keep saying they are two different opportunities.

  6. "travel trade show to be held September 11 and 12 in orlando!"

That is not a YTB show that's a trade show. Given the status of YTB in the world, don't expect to be welcomed with open arms there....

  7. IMHO---so now the Rep part is no longer free if you want the new site?

That may indeed put a feather in the AG cap, because YTB has said that by not charging anything it is not a pyramid. Now you are paying money in to supplement the people above you....

OMG!! Please get your facts straight!! I am NOT talking about the Trade Show sponsored by a diverse group of suppliers. Look it up: www.thetradeshow.org. THAT show is being held on Sept 7-9 in Orlando. (didn't think I knew about that huh?). And any of the trade shows I've attended, I've always been welcomed with open arms - thank God. It makes a difference how you present yourself. ;-)

YTB, however, IS sponsoring its own Trade Show to be held on that Friday and Saturday in a totally different hotel. There is also a Lou Brock golf tournament to be held that Thursday prior to the show. YTB sponsors this twice a year - on the east coast and the west coast.

    I'll take that apology now........

  9. Furthermore, don't be expected to be welcomed with open arms?????

Disney is providing tickets to us at meeting/convention prices to stay for the magic! I know they may do this regularly, but are they rejecting us??? Nope.

  10. Hate to disappoint you they are doing this for everyone. You are not special.Given the current situation with YTB I would not have the nerve to even show up and snatch those freebies. Then again you people have no class.

  11. Wow-selling you at a discount. Last time I was at a convention in Anaheim, they kept the park open just for our group. No lines, lot's of food and entertainment.

I was just thinking that the Convention should have been themed

    FAUX
    Faux Ray Charles
    Faux Statuie of Liberty
    Faux Promises
    Faux Magazine
    Faux Caonfidence
    Faux Information
and of course because Doug was there...

    Faux Tans

Was anything at the conventin real?

Once again, shooting off without reading. I already said that's a normal practice. My reasoning for mentioning that was to point out your statement "don't expect to be welcomed with open arms". They do have the option to NOT allow any YTB people to take advantage of those tickets. You do know that can happen, right?

I work hard in my business booking travel. I deserve whatever they're offering. And I do have class, thank you.

  14. "I work hard in my business booking travel. I deserve whatever they're offering. And I do have class, thank you."

Denyse-The only thing you work hard at is shooting your mouth off all over the internet, work at home Mom and all the other sites your frequent on a daily basis. Kind of hard to get any work done when you are posting all over defending YTB to the ends of the earth isn't it.

As to class, anyone that stays with a slimey organization such as YTB especially now when everyone is going after them has zero class, NADA, zip, nothing. A couple of weeks ago you said you were leaving them on here I might add and yet you are still with them. You talk out both sides of your mouth. You claim to be so holy yet you continually bend the truth to suit your needs. Class? My dog has more class than you will ever have!

  15. When I said I was leaving, you couldn't tell that was a joke!!!???? You nothing about me. I think I'm here as much as you - in fact, less than you. Are you getting any work done?

    ReplyDelete
  16. "I deserve whatever they're offering."

One more thing Denyse before I go that is the difference between you and us TTA's. We work hard, very hard, yet we don't expect anything nor feel we deserve anything. But you and the rest of your ilk feel like the travel suppliers owe you a hand out. That's not how it works lady.

  18. And watch it, you're telling on yourself.

  19. "Are you getting any work done?"

Way more than you are. Go back to Wahm and praise the Lord over there why don't you?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I told you before Denyse and I will say it again, don't threaten me. You have no idea who you are dealing with.

    ReplyDelete
  21. And I'll ask again - WHERE DID I THREATEN YOU???? You don't know me either. I know many people are who are NOT saved. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  22. If you spend any time at all reading the WHAM board, it's pretty clear that YTB has turned into a full blown cult. Those wackos really believe that God himself is running YTB, and it's their mission from God to get more people to join. It's very sad, and very scarry that these people really believe that God wants them to be in a pyramid scheme, and to bring others into to it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not exactly, but my faith is important to me. There are MANY MANY people in YTB who don't have that faith. They just enjoy their business and enjoy earning an income that allows them time-freedom. What's their excuse?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't really mean to just comment...without really thinking this through, but...
I really thought about going to the Convention and felt left out because I failed to get my stuff together for it. So all weekend I looked for updates, news, and info on the bombshells they said they were going to drop to entice us to attend.
I've been to other rah-rah conventions in the past. I'm sure there was a lot of hoopla at YTB's. But after looking at the annoucements, and hearing what's going on, I'm glad I didn't pay the $150 for the convention, a couple of hundred for the flight, 4-5 nights for a hotel, rental and/or cabs, food money, and then the extras...like $4 for a "Special Edition" SEP. (I like to be honest, and I couldn't, with any integrity, push Coach's SEP edition to a prospect, meanwhile with a straight face, not tell them the truth behind the cover situation, and then ask the prospect to shell out $500 for a company that is going through so much right now.) I don't think what they had to tell everyone was really all that if it was what I received in my YTB Biz Reports. (Honestly, I think their announcements fell really short of what they can accomplish.)
If a YTB RTA says there was valuable training there that I missed out on, well, I've got to ask myself, if I really want to be a successful travel provider to my clients, was their two days worth of classes really that impactful? Or was it overshadowed with more recruiting training?
I'm a half full glass kind of guy. But with so many opportunities in travel that can produce favorable results, why play against the odds and ask others to do so as well.
Good luck to the "Heavy-hitters". They're monsters at stuff like this and will often suceed. But if YTB is so great, why are they making it so difficult for non Heavy-hitters to suceed?
I like the travel industry. I'll probably keep looking back here because I was fond of the idea of YTB...who doesn't want to cheer for something that promises as much as it does. But as I said before, I've kind of checked out. Good luck though.

  25. VM - YTB likes to make you think that the only way to have a "home based travel business" is through them. That's far from the truth. If that is truly what you want - seek out a reputable host agency (there are many - with a much better commission split - try Nexion or Travel Planners International to start) and go for it.

We have said before - we welcome new blood in the industry as long as the emphasis is on being a trained travel professional - not a recruiter.
