It Seems Like Yesterday...

It seems like it was yesterday when I posted an entry about the YTB stock closing out at $0.88. Well it was actually 11 days ago and I have to wonder if the RTAs and Reps are at all concerned. To all of the YTB readers of this blog that assure me they are making tons of money in the program, my question is...are you worried? If indeed you are making any money (a big if) I would think that you might be concerned about another almost 14% drop in stock in less than two weeks. The stock is tied to the performance of the company and if the company is not performing well, it will directly affect your earnings. This is the close on March 17, 2008:
$0.76
*Chart only reflects stock prices through March 14, 2008

  1. As an RTA with YTB, admittedly this concerns me, However.....should we drop all of our dow stocks as well. Keep in mind the DJIA was down 13 percent from the first of the year through March 10.
The answer is no...because on a day to day basis too many things can affect the stock price. Keep in mind that no financial news has been out about YTB , no negative press in the last 2 weeks (besides what john is trying to drum up) yet the stock dropped.. Hey guess what....the entire stock market has dropped. Again, a concern, like my entire stock portfolio, but not an issue....YET

  2. True to a degree, but there is a lot more for the dow to protect itself with. Look at 6 months and the Dow is pretty flat. YTB has been sliding downhill consistently.

I think it is amusing that you say there has been no negative press in the last two weeks. WHy are you investing (either in stocks or as a participant) in a company that is so concerned with the negative press?

As an RTA, I am sure moist hold a minimal (if any) amount of stock in the company. My concern is that there are people out there that have bought into the dream. Some are making a LOT of money, some are making a little money, and most are not making anything at all. But those that are not making are being guided to the "promised land" and are encouraged to continue because riches are only 15 months away when you are a level 4 director. Well in 15 months all that does i make the upline wealthier and the top guys wealthier.

When there is NO value to the stock, there is only so much a company can do. My best guess is that they close up shop and move onto the next industry. After all, look at the top guys. They are making some big bucks. The management has bought assets on the backs of the RTAs--mansions, lear jets, and the facility in wood river.

Not sure who holds the titles, but I imagine in any liquidation they are probably pretty well protected

  3. Hey Anonymous, let's compare Apples to Apples. YTBLA was at $1.09 at the start of the year, and on March 10th closed at $0.83.

At the start of the year, the DJIA wa 13043.96. On March 10th it closed at 11740.15. That means for the period that you chose, it was down almost exactly 10% from the first of the year, not the 13% you stated.

From March 10th to the 17th, YTBLA is down a little more than another 8% (from $0.83 to $0.76). Total YTD return is -30.2% (from $1.09 to $0.76).

From March 10th to March 17th, the DJIA is actually up nearly 2% from 11740.15 to 11972.25. YTD return is -8.2% (from 13043.96 to 11972.25).

So, while some of the 30% decline can be attributed to the market as a whole, clearly not the entire 30%.

On the other hand, YTBLA is doing better than BSC!

  4. "no negative press in the last 2 weeks"

Say what? Look up Vicki Freed, RCCL, etc. just yesterday (when the stock tumbled to 76 cents.

  5. Pretty sad when the people from YTB have to dwell on "no bad news in two weeks" to show how well YTB is doing.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It is also pretty sad when the people who bought into it can't do the Math.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It's not only the math, the trend that they are losing vendors, stock is crashing, IATAN won't be reinstated (reissue of cards), and people still don't get it. Every bad sign is there.

    ReplyDelete
  8. OMG...after going up a couple points...YTB is now down 6 points to 70 cents! It mght hit below 70 much quicker than expected! Stay tuned!! I hope everyone that bought at 8-9 bucks, sells because this stock isn't going anywhere. I feel sorry for you all :(

How can you say that? Since 5 March there have been two press releases that were meant to provide "positive" news - one on the purchae of Sunrise Travel Service and one about the Shanghai Springs European Tours. In addition they have made 3 SEC filings. All this is available on-line and all of this is read by (or should be) potential and/or current investors. What I suspect is happening is that people are reading between the lines!

  10. YTBLA is currently trading at .70 cents! How low will it go?!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wooot down to 63 cents!!! Down 13 cents at the moment! Good god!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Losing vendors???

    Actually, YTB is gaining vendors!

    Also, about the stocks...

Now, this is reference to the marketing side only!

When someone in YTB acquires a bonus in stocks (wich are payouts of $50,000 and above), the director is already being paid at least 3 times the value of that bonus annually. When a director reaches a $50,000 bonus, count on that person bringing home at least $150,000 annualy!

Bonuses less than $50,000 are paid by check. This includes $1,000 bonuses and $10,000 bonuses.

When REP acquires the $1000 bonus, that person had already made $3000 on top of it. The same goes for the $10,000 bonus. That REP ha already made at least $3000 on top of that! A REP can earn the $1000 bonuses monthly or even weekly. The REP can earn the $10,000 bonus monthly, semi-annually or annually. The speed of bonus payouts depend on he progres rate of the team.

Speaking of team, there's a new program where PTLs can place new RTAs under anyone in their downline to HELP that person get into their Power Team. It's just another way for the upline to help their downline... which is part of what YTB is all about. Still, you just don't get that!

At Amway, everyone is on their own... to fend for themselves. At YTB, we don't want anyone to fail. The uplines... most uplines bend over backwards to help out their downlines. Still, you just don't get that either!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Correction to a line abov. I left out a zero...

The same goes for the $10,000 bonus. That REP ha already made at least $30,000 on top of that!

Just another note... Bonuses are just that... Bonuses. I could easily live without them, so whether the stocks rise or falls, it really doesn't concern me that much.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "I could easily live without them, so whether the stocks rise or falls," so Proud how exactly do you live? Welfare? Money buried in the back yard? Maybe it's in your mattress.....

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think everyone is pointing to the stock price as an indicator of the health of the cmpany YTB.

I don't think anyone was really much concerned with the viability of your bonuses Proud.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous, I get pid enough without the bonuses. Try reading 2 coments above on how the bonus system works. I knew you wouldn't understand.

When I receive a $10,000 bonus, it's IN ADDITION to the minimum of $30,000 I've already been paid. So, that brings me to $40,000 by check... since up to that point, it is paid by check.

If I earn a $50,000 bonus in stocks, it's because I am already being paid BY CHECK a minimum of $150,000!

    ReplyDelete
  17. and, just because Proud says he does or does not get bonus' or makes a gajillion off his downline doesn't mean it's true. I think every YTBer that posts here has exaggerated their income.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Eddie, you are right. Most people do exaggerate about their income. I was guilty of it of myself until I realized I needed to be honest with myself before I could be respected by others.

I was ashamed to admit I've been in YTB for 2 years and am in the red. I'm in the hole. I know for a fact the 3 people I sponsored into YTB are in the hole. I also know there are a lot of people who have quit YTB. They were probably in the hole too.

I say all that to say this which is a repeat of what I told you earlier. The opportunity to earn more than traditional travel agents is there at YTB. The catch is you have to be a savvy business person to acquire that level of success. As of this day, in ratio to the 140,000 RTAs in the black, there are probably just as many in the red.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Rod - come to the light ... we're waiting for you.

I'm sorry, but this is just not true:

"I say all that to say this which is a repeat of what I told you earlier. The opportunity to earn more than traditional travel agents is there at YTB."

You will never make more than a TTA with YTB UNLESS you are selling the websites. Period. No discussion.

  20. I suggest that anyone receiving stock as a "bonus" from YTB, sell it immediately. This stock is going to go WAY down and you will never see the value of the date of issue or better unless you sell it immediately.

  21. 5 things that cost more than 5 shares of YTB:

    1. A Happy Meal
    2. 2 gallons of gas
    3. Screw top wine
    4. A large latte with a flavor in it at Starbucks
    5. A book of 10 stamps

So what's todays excuse, every stock I own today had a positive look. And YTB is down.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oops in closing stock is back down 10 cents. Closing at 66. Guess there were still some sales that needed to go through. So stock is down 13.16% just today.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Proud--correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the stock shares issued are NOT the class A share but Class B shares which are redeemable at a 2 to 1 ratio. I also believe they are priced at a level determined by YTB..unknown but per Doug it is $1

  25. Rod~If you can sell and want to learn travel please find another host to work with. YTB is just not working for you and you need to move on. You can't keep throwing good money after bad...

  26. CTA, I have proof that the serious travel bookers in YTB can't be beat.

You are right that the only way it must be done is by recruiting.

CTA, there'a a lady RTA out who cam from the TTA side. She got involved in YTB sometime in 2006. Listen to what she said in her newsletter dated 3/9/08:

2007 was our first full year in YTB. January 1, 2007 Flavius and I had 114 RTA's on our team and on January 1, 2008 we had over 800.

CTA, that lady knows travel and she is training every week in a group location her group how to sell travel.

She earns 10% of 800 RTAs travel commissions if they are in her Power Team.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Now Rod - you just said...

"CTA, I have proof that the serious travel bookers in YTB can't be beat.

You are right that the only way it must be done is by recruiting."

So you are agreeing that the only way someone in YTB can make as much or more than he average TTA is by recruiting..... they can not do it selling travel for I am guessing, several reasons....

Rod, come to the light ... we are here.

  34. Lady travel agents like me? How many times do I have to tell you YTB idiots, that I'm not female. And I'm not a travel agent.

No wonder you stock is dropping, you don't have to be smart or educated to be in YTB. Guess you don't have to be able to read either.

Just keep sending HQ your $50. So when YTB stops functioning, the CEOs can blame everyone, while they smile all the way to the bank.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The TTAs need something to do, because they sure aren't booking any travel for people. Today, I spoke with a TTA. At first, I didn't let on that I was with YTB. He proceeded to tell me how slow busines has been for the past few months. He said there was a slight jump in business during Christmas, but that's about it. The last 2 weks, he averaged less than 1 client per day. I asked him how long it's been this bad, and he said it has been like this for the past 3 years but progressively got worse, and that he had to get another job to support his family. Folks, he's also working at Wal-Mart! It was then that I told him about YTB. I also have him coming to a presentation to meet others who are also in it. I do believe that after Tonight, YTB will have another TTA turned RTA!

It's amazing how many TTAs actually do like YTB! This will be my 4th TTA I personally signed and converted!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Proud,

But wouldn't this person be a failure in your eyes? They couldn't make it as a TTA and now you want them to join your downline? Oh wait of course you do, as long as he keeps throwing $50 a month at the company.

Did you explain which vendors have pulled out of YTB? Did you explain that the stock is taking a nose dive as well? I bet you didn't. And for that one TTA that "recruited" I bet there are alot more people dropping out of YTB.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Poor guy. Your right Proud, that is a last resort. I'm actually hiring right now as we have 4 new corporate clients that have had it with the internet and the lack of service. If you are GDS trained and I were more desparate I might even consider you! IATAN available after the fisrt 5 grand in comms.
    Peace!

    ReplyDelete
  38. CTA, YTB is not a scam simply because if it did not have recruiting, it would still be viable travel company. People could still sell travel on the online booking engine and call vendors directly and book as well.

At the rate of earning 60% of the commissions, RTAS would have no hope of ever earning a million dollars in a 12 month period.

So YTB is legal without the recruiting, but not attractive to people wanting a business to have as the source of earning a primary income for the masses.

So by networking the travel sales, YTB has made it attractive to travel minded sales people who want to have a travel business capable of becoming a source of primary income for the masses.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Actually scam, he already heard the news about the vendors who pulled out. After all, he is a TTA... until the end of tonight that is. He also knows that the reason for his decline in business is because of the internet. People would rather book online than to go to his... rather small office. He explained that he even did away with charging fees. He also has a few other agents who work with him, and he told me that once he gets in, he will then get the others in. This will be another B&M agency closed down. Of course, it would have closed down soon anyway... according to him.

No, I don't see him as a failure. I see him as someone who is smart enough to recognize a paradime shift has ocurred in the travel industry and sees an opportunity to stay in his chosen profession.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Proud - Who are you? I personally don't believe anything you say. As a TA, my business isn't down. I'm selling more cruises than ever because the prices have dropped. Are you sure the TA that went to work at Walmart isn't another MLM agent?

I could pretend I'm selling 50 cruises per day and 20 overseas tours, but I don't need to exaggerate like the YTB people. I'm doing OK and making a little more than I was a year ago. So is the agency I work for. I make a comfortable living and I can guarantee you that I book more travel in a week than you do in 6 months.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Proud, I hate to tell you this, but just as all YTBers are not the same, the business of all traditional agents is not the same. Our clients pay a retainer for our services, love coming to our swanky office, and would wash my mouth out with soap if I suggested they book something on-line. Yes there are some people who still really appreciate good service. And we have more business right now than we know what to do with.

  42. Proud,

Why is it that you and the YTB followers keep claiming that people want to book travel online etc. It's not like it's some new revolution. I have been booking online for years. And WHY would I want to book through a YTB site when I can do it myself? And 99% of the time cheaper, and with some real support. Not a page telling me to contact the vendor.

I know why, because your not in the business of selling travel, but selling websites.

  45. Business for this TTA is through the roof - did the same amount of business in the first three months of 2008 as I did in all of 2007, with no stop in sight.

If Proud found a TTA having issues, I'm not sure that TTA will sell any more travel through YTB, and will actually make LESS on travel commissions through YTB in the process (recruiting aside).

    ReplyDelete
  46. One of the benefits of the commission cuts and of the develpment of the internet booking engines is that it has weeded out the TTAs who were not too profitable to begin with - people who were not good businessmen/women to begin with.

Another beneift is that for me at least, it has weeded out the "tire kickers", the "looky lous", and the bottom feeders. The clients coming to our very nice office are serious about what they wish to do and about "value" vs. "deal" - they understand that cheapest is not always the best for them. I am able to concentrate more on these people - serve fewer and make more than I was back in the mid-90s, and frankly, my yield has increased every single year since 1996 - including 2001, when I had my very best October, November and Decembers up to that time!

So far this year (actually since December 1st) I have booked more high-end cruise space (for 2008/9 sailings) that I did in ALL of 2007! It just never seems to stop and a lot of my business here is actually walk-ins! Here's what happening - they are looking for a "big" cruise (it's an anniversary, etc.) and they've done quite a lot of research on line but they're finding that it's just too much information to sort out and make a decision. So they come in here, they pay my fee and they drop a deposit on a $15+ cruise booking (that's about average - I had one walk-on last week who'd never used a TA and deposited a $39k booking). I help them compare and contrast and narrow down their requirements until we get it right and then it's done!

The internet is no competition at all reall - it has helped!
