Did Joystar Jump The Shark?

Well, all of a sudden it seems like Joystar may have "jumped the shark" and is pursuing a quasi-MLM model. While many do not believe Joystar to be a Card Mill (and I am one of them), I have to question the direction when they are publicly gunning for YTB , World Ventures and Traverus.

The pitch is the same...Joystar is bringing three trends together--Internet, Travel and Social Networking. Sound familiar? Already the Craigslist ads are appearing. This one was entitled Travel At Huge Discounts (Lakeland)

At least read the due dilligence part below.

Wow---downlines, publicly traded and an admitted MLM program.

But apparently, Bill Alverson does not command the same loyalty as Coach does...here is Daryn in another video, but this time it is Cruise To Cash.

NOTE: This blog likes publicly traded companies!

  1. LOL this is just too funny. Jokestar has been screaming for the past 8 months how they are not a card mill and not like YTB and did not deserve to be banned from RCCL and now this.

They are climbing that pyramid looking to topple the almighty coach.

Seems the travel industry is now a game of King of the Hill (err, I mean pyramid)

  2. I did not know ALverson ran MLMs before. Interesting.

  3. Joystar must really be hurting if they have decided to go MLM. It will be interesting to see what their IC's do.

  4. Personally if I'd worked for Joystar and was one of them who was "adament" about not being an MLM when RCCL did what they did..and for now this? Egg on the face. I'd be livid with the powers that be.

On an off note ... I see that Doug has closed ALL comments on his blog now. Guess your not allowed to have any opinion what-so-ever on what he posts. Whats the point of the blog then?

  5. "Whats the point of the blog then?"

Promotion and recruiting, plain and simple.

  6. well, if you're gonna be accused of it anyway, and have vendors pull away, then why not say, "screw it! i'll go ahead and do it then!"

  7. sorry - my above post referring to john's article - not doug's blog.

  8. Doug couldn't take the negative comments. But, at least he doesn't have to pretend to be focused on travel anymore. It's all recruiting, as said above.

And now hes focused on snatching up some of the disappointed MJT people...altho how they will find his blog and sign up with him I do not know.

I'm sorry that Joystar is unable to make it as a travel agency without resorting to recruiting it's ICs customers. If I were an IC with them I'd be very wary of their access to my client list.

  9. This is really kind of sad about Joystar.

  10. Well apparently Alverson could not get his reputation restored from the RCCL deal and now he probably has shareholders to answer to.

If I were a JS agent---someone that is seriousl about travel I woudl be livid.

  11. You know it is a shame because it is a pretty good Host by all accounts. Too bad Alverson let his ego get in the way with RCL - had he not put up that "Royal Mistake" site and incited his members the way he did, he probably could've got reinstated.

  12. I agree as well. I never considered JS a card mill or even a MLM. As a host, I don't personally care for them, but have always said that for some people (especially newbies) it is a great choice.

    Disappointing for sure!

  13. This was part of the pitch/story on one of the sites:

"YTB's business model is failing which led Bill to create the free"my
space" travel concept with free travel benefits."

    Interesting.

  14. Bill vs Coach. Well, at least Bill knows something about the travel biz.

He should make a raid on all those YTB promoters on youtube et all.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If YTB and Joystar are apples to apples do you think Joystar would be the better option for an mlmer who really wants to do only the travel part?

    ReplyDelete
  16. All our regular YTBites are over signing up with Joystar today!

  17. We interupt this blog for an important news bulletin from Travel Weekly!

YTB International has jumped 9 spots to #26 overall with $414.5 Million in Travel Sales for 2007.

This large jump in the rankings from YTB International is tied with Christopherson Andova Travel as the largest increase of any of the “Power Agencies” moving up the list 9 spots. YTB’s ranking rose from #35 in last years list to #26 for the current year.

Congratulations YTB and all the hard working RTA's that made this all possible!!

  18. My friend just got laid off by those scum bags Christmas week! Not only have they failed to give her her final paycheck, it turns out they've defrauded the IRS for over a year by withholding taxes and turning them in! She's also been denied unemployment benefits!
