So, Where's The TRAVEL Training Again?

Below, you will find the agenda for the Certified Referring Travel Agent Certification. This is the required training in order to receive the YTB identification card and is also required for the CLIA card.

The agenda is prefaced with this comment:

When we become the largest travel company in the world, one of the key reasons will be the Certified RTA program. This additional program will take your travel business to the next level by opening up additional income opportunities and providing you with world class training taught by YTB's top leaders at locations across the US.
As for the agenda itself:

Attendees will gain first hand knowledge of how to maximize the income and benefits of their YTB business from the company leaders. Classes are taught by YTB Directors. You will learn how to:

Earn substantial income from travel sales:
  • Put your online travel agency on autopilot
  • 10% override on all travel sold by RTAs referred by your PowerTeam Reps
  • $500 and $5000 bonuses by helping those RTAs succeed

Save incredible amounts on your personal vacations and travel:

  • Only Certified RTAs can apply for their CLIA card
  • The proper way to ask for industry rates and upgrades
  • Where to find, and how to book FAM trips
Dramatically and legally reduce your personal income taxes:
  • Home-based travel business tax advantages
  • Convert current personal expenses to tax deductible business expenses

The cost of certification is $149 and comes with a 2-Way Money Back Guarantee.

If you are unsatisfied for any reason, tell us at the end of the certification and receive a 100% refund.

Personally enroll 3 RTAs who become Certified RTAs and receive a 100% reimbursement.

Rep Training

The afternoon will be dedicated to additional training for all of the newly Certified RTAs who are also Reps with yourTravelBiz.com.

  • Build a team of Reps that could lead to total and complete financial security.
  • How the YTB copyrighted compensation works.
  • The POWER of the PowerTeam.
  • Real residual income.

Don’t miss out on these historic and business building events. You can register for the RTA Certification course nearest you in your Back Office. Just click on Company Events, then Certification Trainings.
I guess my questions are:
  • Where do they fit in "travel" training into this?
  • How are the Reps qualified to provide training?
  • Why the focus on "how to ask" for perks?
  • Where is the part about geography?
  • Where is the part about agency accounting?
  • Where is the part about client consultations?
  • Where is the part about preferred suppliers and market share?
  • Where is the part about handling problems when they arise?
  • And I thought many said YTB was no longer charging for training--hence the decline in training revenue on their 10Q. Hmm, guess not.

  1. Boy you'd think with an "award winning" travel agent like Candi May on board they would have had her give some real travel training. Of course no one has ever proven that she was ever really an agent though.

Here are some other classes that should be on the schedule:

    1. How to make director in 30 days by Holton Buggs

    2. Why God likes YTBers more than TTAs by Regina Ossie & Coach

    3. How to get those pesky kool-aid stains out of your clothes with Marcia Dempsy

    4. How I overcame my anger issues against TTAs with Ole Scorekeeper

    5. Things not do to with your webcam with Earl Allen Beck

    6. How to explain what you did with $48,000. (This course offered in Tennessee only)

    7. How to upsell a Carnival cruise by adding a car and a dozen roses.

  3. Their "training" is a money grab. It is additional money the RTAs must pay. If they don;t like it they can get it back, and if they recruit (more money to Coach) they can get it refunded.

But I am sure the pitch is---with the CRTA you can take it to the next level. Don't you want to take advantage of all the perks the YTB and CLIA cards offer? Don;t you want to be recognized as a "professional" by all the travel vendors? For $149 this all can be yours....and with 3000 RTAs in attendance at the training in Richmond, it was yet another reach into their collective pocket of $447000

  4. Well now JOhn, let's be honest. If you can!!!
YOU DAMN WELL KNOW THE RICHMOND WAS A FREE TRAVEL TRAINING and not a paid CRTA training. I know you know this because it had been discussed with you in comments on other blogs going back a few times over the last few weeks.

As far as the initial blog, well the grab from the brief outline on the website is what it does say and it should go more in depth as to what goes on. As there is some extensive travel training at a CRTA as I have been to 7 of them. I do admit that on the website it should say more about the travel.

  7. Since this blog is about MLMs and Travel, can you share a little insight on how YTB's 'certification' training compares to the training provided by other MLMs, like Traverus, World Ventures, or GTI? Which one provides the best travel training? Outside of the MLM-provided training, what training would you recommend for someone who wants to be a full-time travel agent (not a MLmarketer)?

    ReplyDelete
  8. "I do admit that on the website it should say more about the travel."

Why would it say more about travel when they aren't trying to train anyone about travel? They are trying to teach you how to build your downline and line their pockets.

"As there is some extensive travel training at a CRTA as I have been to 7 of them."
Really? What were they? Can you tell us a little about them? What motivated you to take them?

  10. You are still assuming that we want to be a TTA. I send people to a website to book their travel. I have booked all my travel for myself my whole life. I have never in my life used a TTA. It is not brain science to book your trip online. I guess if you are a dinosaur like some TTA's it may be difficult to book online. I am in my 30's and my age group does not need a TTA. Get over it!!!!!

  12. For the 30 something year old. I am also in my 30's and have been a "dinosaur" for about 18 years now. There are ALOT of people who book with a travel agent to obtain discounts, upgrades, specialized services and much more that a website cannot give you. If you feel comfortable booking online, so be it. Clients who are spending countless thousands of dollars do not want the chance of something going wrong..we are not just talking about airline tickets. I just had 4 people checking on a safari..needed info on visas, shots, TOP OF THE LINE places to stay, flights, excursions and the lot. You are NOT going to find that on a generic site. And he is not going to book a $30K trip on a faceless website.

As for us dinosaurs having a hard time booking online. Read a paper. Majority of travel agents use the internet everyday for vendors, information and other things. You don't have the market on that.

Pointing and clicking is pretty simple, but again there is a lot more to it than just being able to operate a website. There are weather patterns, time zones, entry requirements, and all sorts of other things to consider. A website will take your money no matter if it's the rainy season, or the hotel is under construction, or there's a huge convention going on. A travel agent will help ensure that your trip is a great value, and that you are in a place that you'll enjoy.

  16. YTB charges for it all....

The Richmond Travel Training event went off without a hitch! Our vendors gave much praise to all the eager and attentive RTAs who participated in the live training seminars. Our RTAs were just as pleased with the well focused vendor trainings. The YTB Store was a huge success. Many new items were introduced and we even sold out of the new style, always popular YTB padfolios the first day of the event. Thank you to all who participated in the Richmond Travel Training Event. Such a high price.

Enough to keep the TTAs clucking like hens for the balance of today.

    Interesting, though.

TTAs complain ad nauseum about how no RTAs get any training.

Scores of RTAs travel to Richmond for travel training with well-known vendors.

But let's focus on that HUGE $20 price tag . . . not the training.

    What travel training?

How many are 'scores'? Attendees at training schedules should be easily counted as the vendors hand in a report of how many attended each session.

But maybe Ole and Mixed up did not attend? They should still be able to clue us in on their personal professional training. I'm sure they must be first in line to encourage their downlines to pay for/take training as they get something out of it. Right?

  26. Training might be a dangerous thing for a YTBite. Once they learn how much they give up by being with YTB they just might decide it's in their best interests to move on. But, it looks like no YTBite here has any training on travel ergo - they just sell websites and hope for the best.

  32. Mixed Up has no travel training and doesn't need it because he is only a RTA.

Okay, fair enough that you don't want to pay for something you don't need. You don't want to be a travel agent, but you feel that you are due the perks that a working agent earns. Not okay. That's why YTB gets the industrys hackles up...YTB RTA's want what they don't deserve. And that's how you get people to join, by promising what you don't deserve.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It should be.

Not selling travel = no perks

Not getting training = no perks

Operating a website w/no training or knowledge if client needs = no perks

Do not call yourself a TA at all without any training or service to the client.

Maybe then these hens will stop cackling. But then i'm sure you wouldnt get quite as many suckers to sign up without the perks you all seem to promote.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hmmm. Seems nobody has any training then. Thats what I thought. So it's ok for you all to call yourself an agent, but have no knowledge of actually being one. I'm going to go on WebMD then call myself a doctor.

I've been through training, NO a caveman (as I've read on Doug's blog) cannot do what we do. Simply because an RTA cannot even fathom what it is that we do each day for each and every client. Point and click isn't one of them.

I've earned my titles, I've done the training, I've put 18 years into what I do. I'VE EARNED THE PERKS, whatever ones are left because of the card-mills and BS like this, I do not think any one of you can say the same.

Tell me this. A client goes onto your website, because you told him to save some money or give to some charity instead of booking with an agent. Now the hotel he found/chose is currently under construction, which the website won't tell you, and he gets to the resort and pissed beyond belief that NOBODY/WEBSITE didn't advise him of this. Who's going to help him? You? Or do you pass it off to some nobody who doesn't know the client in headquarters? Thats what we do. We make sure things like that DONT happen, and if something DOES say like hurricane, monsoon, 911 etc..WE ARE THE ONES who help. Not some joe schmoe who knows nothing about the client, who he is, what he paid, how he'll act, what he wants. HOW TO HELP!

We've earned our titles, what pisses us off is the fact that thousands of you are "wanna-bes" pretending to be agents and making a mockery of the industry in doing so. Don't compare yourself to Orbitz, Expedia or the likes..you don't see them "advertising" to the world to "take a paycation", "travel like an insider". At least they show some respect for the industry.

    ReplyDelete
  35. But as you saw from my post last week, and if you read any of the trades, it's pretty clear that the mlm free ride is just about over. The industry has had enough of these untrained freeloaders claiming to be travel agents just to rebate to themselves and take advantage of fams. And given what I have learned from many within the industry, I would expect things to be very different within the next year.
The facts are that the mlms are not providing any service, and the prices are no better than the rest of the on-line companies. The only people that benefit from the mlm are the mlmers themselves. They really provide no value to the average consumer.

    You know the answer, Kate.

YTB and TRAVEL: A Great Mix!

"I guess if you are a dinosaur like some TTA's it may be difficult to book online. I am in my 30's and my age group does not need a TTA. Get over it!!!!!"

Then pray-tell why is my clientele almost exclusively 18 to 30 year olds if that age range doesn't need a TTA????? In the first four months of 2008 I booked over $300,000 in sales ... and about 80% of those sales were to 18-30 year olds. As technologically-savvy as that age group is, many DO still need a TA if they are booking more than a simple domestic flight and hotel.

  63. You know what I think, Ole?

I think you NEED ytb more than they need you. Pay them, recruit, and flaunt that you really know nothing about travel sales and really don't need to. It's not your bag. MLM is the bag, and travel sales are the hook.

    95% of mlm participants fail.

    Go for it.

  65. What's going on inside Rod's head -

"I'm going to attend that event in Dearborn."

    "Wait a minute, I don't think I will".

"I want to go because I like part of YTB."

"I don't want to go because I may not like 100% of what I hear there".

    Rod at the event -

"Could this be my sponsor if I REALLY, REALLY decide to re-join YTB?"

"No, he looked at me wrong".

"I do not like YTB now".

"I am going to go home and post my REAL, TRUE thoughts about YTB."

"I am going to humbly apologize to the TTAs so that they like and respect me."

ROD - a true man of principle.

  66. Whoever posted the above is an ass. Yet again you just proved that if you leave YTB that your an outcast. The man is trying to help another "TTA" attend a meeting and see what all the hub-bub really is.

Grow the hell up already! Picking on the other kids is so high school. Oh sorry maybe that is still your mentality...or maybe you still are in high school. Seriously, my 7 year old behaves better then some of you.

  67. Hmmm. I thought I had left a comment earlier... But, thanks Rod.

To anon, Rod most likely would not attend this training as it is nowhere near where he lives. Although, I'd be happy to attend with him if he wanted to come (after all, his travel would be tax deductable, right? ;-)). Or maybe you would like to come with me?

Anyone else want to come? I'm thinking there's safety in numbers, you know...

  68. What kind of travel training does Traverus, World Ventures, or GTI provide?

  69. Nothing worth writing about. If you want proper training go to ASTA.org and become a real agent, not a MLM

"Ole I posted the link from Google that showed that both of these "agents" were mlm agents many a post ago. The woman was a member of TAN. I forget which one the guy was with. But if it REALLY means that much to you I will dig around and repost the links."

Just trying to keep you honest Kate. After all, you did say it was "proven" they were MLM agents. I remember your anonymous post saying she was with TAN. I responded with, "show us a link". You didn't. So yeah, let's have it. No hurry, as I see you are caught up trying to extricate yourself out of the DSA web you spun this morning. Good luck with that one.

In all fairness Mr Scorekeeper, unless you have the IATA you have no way to prove which side of the fence these crimes are being committed on.

IATA? It doesn't matter. These are your brethren traditional travel agents. And have you taken note..most of them are B&M operators which would suggest they are also members of IATA?

Since your crowd comes from Yale or Jail I would say its more likely the crimes are being committed by someone in an mlm.

That certainly would be your hope. Again, no proof..just the word, "likely" from you. Come on Kate, you can do better then that.

And in case you haven't noticed, we have never posted anything about mlm criminal activity unless there was proof that is was in fact done by an mlmer. We would expect the same courtesy in return.

To be fair, I have not posted any media reports about scaming home based travel agents. It's only been your peer group B&M agents I've noted. I'm sure a good many of them have gone from Yale to Jail over the 8 years YTB has been in business.

Yes Ole there are bad agents. There are also bad cops, bad priests, and bad politicians. It happens in every industry. What I find amazing is that it has happened so many times with YTB.

You give us much to much credit Kate. Take a look at the real numbers.

    YTB - 134,000 - 3 crooks
    TTA's - 80,000 - Too many crooks to count.

I'm still waiting Kate. If I don't hear from you soon, I guess OleScore will have to assume your claim is just another sans fondement deflectere...oui?.

    Sorry.
