Does Dr. Seligman Have A Sister?

I learned my lesson about posting baby pictures a few weeks ago, so I am not going to go there again while addressing another inconsistency in the rhetoric from YTB.

Recently, there has been a flurry of comments about how many TTAs are flocking to YTB because they have all "seen the light" and understand what a great program it is. I cannot dispute that they have some TTAs in their mix--they probably do; but I think I can call into question the curriculum vitae (that Latin phrase was for Dr. Bob) of the agents they claim to have. Last week, on the blog called Just Picture It Now, there was an entire post devoted to Candi May, who was a hot shot travel agent in Kentucky for decades before joining YTB.

Some of the claims made by this blog include the "fact(s) that Candi May:
  • owned several Brick and Mortar Agencies back in the day
  • she was the one who was winning all the awards
  • isn’t some rookie off the street who knew nothing about Travel
I am very friendly with the owner of the largest travel agency in Kentucky (actually they are also the largest in Tennessee and Southern Ohio as well) and as hard to believe as it is--they have never heard of someone named Candi May owning agencies in Kentucky. No one seems to be aware of all these awards she won.

And while we are dealing with the "unbelievable", there is this excerpt from the blog touting her credentials:

A former client then asked her to take a look at a business, not for her, but for him.

What she did do was look at the public numbers, she looked at our Founders, and she looked at what other successful people were doing in this business. She also went up to meet the Founders personally.

YTB was a company that was actually capitalizing on the very same market shift that was causing her Brick & Mortar business to loose all this business.

OK, so let me get this straight to be sure I understand....a client comes into her office and says, "Candi, I am looking at buying an internet agency to compete with you--do you have an opinion?" Well, my opinion would likely have been "Get the hell out of my office." But apparently, Candi's answer was to say, "Let me check it out and get back to you," as she purchased tickets to fly up to meet Coach and Scott herself just to offer an opinion to a client who was looking to compete with her. Yeah---right!

This blog entry really raised some flags for me--as so many of the other blog entries do--ADI acquisition, Dr. Bob, etc. So I sent Candi an email asking about her agency. While I will not repost her email here, her response did not confirm anything about her experience. She referenced an agency owned by a relative, and then included several links to companies that are no longer in business. Nothing about her and her awards, nothing about her agency awards.

On a follow up, she indicated that a major travel company (I am choosing to not name them) paid for her to fly to their headquarters and she spent many days having them wine and dine her in an attempt to get her to join their ranks--which she declined. This too sat funny with me since I could not picture this agency being a major player in the Kentucky market. Well, after a quick email, I can confirm that this major travel company (I know the CEO) indeed did not pay for anyone named Candi May to come to their headquarters. As a matter of fact, the only "Candi" they have in their system of prospects, was a "Candy" from Michigan.

So, do we have a long lost reunion coming up pretty soon. Is Candi May, the good Dr. Seligman's long lost sister? So now do we have the trifecta of wrong information? Seligman, ADI and now Candi May! Can anyone add some shred of truth to the claims? Candi may have been all that; but it seems like maybe not!

  1. Well it is a nitpicky point, but a very important one for this "story" on the other blog. John you quoted the blog and it said "former client" yet in your imaginary hypothetical you say "let me get this straight, a CLIENT comes in...."

It, from a simple sentence standpoint is nitpicky, but the former aspect actually makes the story relevant and valid, IMO.

So, like usual, you post something, make it seem one way and then subtly change it to make it "fit your point"

  2. Perry Mason and Columbo fans -

    Your super-sleuth is at work.

Looks like he is hanging out in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Following a YTB rogue agent in Tennessee.

Now investigating a former TTA from Kentucky.

He is the TTA answer to Rachel Ray on the road.

Better head the caravan to Texas, John.

I heard from someone who talked to someone else who read something on the internet that Jenna Bush/Hager booked her honeymoon on a YTB travel website.

This will give the TTA detective enough anti-YTB material for a week or two.

"Well, after a quick email, I can confirm that this major travel company (I know the CEO) indeed did not pay for anyone named Candi May to come to their headquarters"

    Let's see . . .

Major travel agencies do not like YTB.

I'm sure the CEO of a major travel agency would go out of their way to say good things about YTB.

    Right.

    Super-sleuth at work.

Another yawner week here on the TTAs HATE YTB blog.

  3. Yes because a CEO of a multi-BILLION dollar agency gives a rats ass about the pimple wanna be internet travel agency. He'd go out of his way to lie. Give me a break.

  4. You RTA's just don't get it do you? The problem is you have someone who is a DIRECTOR heavily recruiting people on FALSE claims. That is fraud. That is lying! That is cheating! AND, that is unethical. It amazes me Doug how you and the rest of your clan who claim to be good Christians and push that down everyone's throats can condone this behavior. Hypocrites all of you. And of course deflect, deflect, deflect to take the heat off of you all...

  5. Where are the false claims????

The problem is with you TTAs is you have a poster child anti-MLMYTB zealot who is recruiting all of you anti-MLM zombies on lies and false claims day after day after day.

  6. To the exercised TTAs -

    Do I know Candi May?

    No.

Is she advertising on the internet?

    Yes.

Has she been exposed as a fraud?

    Absolutely not.

    Why?

John has proven nothing with his "anonymous" contacts in Kentucky and the "anonymous" CEO.

It is not a secret that JF loathes YTB and will spin where spin is needed to bolster his claims.

He's as credible as an Obama spokesperson giving you the REAL truth about Hillary Clinton.

    You call it "deflect".

I call is JF spin to get his desired result.

This coming from the man who recently called out someone as a liar and had to later apologize.

There certainly needs to be more proof from CREDIBLE, UNBIASED sources before I call this woman a fraud.

    Reasonable doubt with JF's claims?

    You bet there is.

  8. If you read through the story about Candi May on Doug's blog, and listen to her video, yes there are several discrepancies. Not things that John made up. Actual dicrepancies.
Why don't you read Doug's blog post. Then listen to Candi's video. Then make an informed decision!

  11. This mystery can easily be solved by Ms May posting her awards and credentials on Doug's blog.I don't imagine she would do that here. I have only 'won' one travel award and I found it on google.

  12. I have been an avid reader of Scam.com for months. When Candi's presentation link was posted there last week, I watched it. There were so many red flags being raised that the first thing I thought of was another Seligman. I could not find any information on her with the BBB, the Louisville Chamber of Commerce, anything about her owning an agency, or being a travel agent. You would think that Google would have something about her other than YTB. The presentation was a typical greasy MLM presentation with claims that needed to be backed up. I wrote her and am still awaiting a reply.

This is going to be interesting. Will this be two presentations that are totally false and coming from YTB? We'll see sooner or later.

  13. Jenna Bush/Hager booked their honeymoon on a YTB website?! Okay, that's it - you are offially an ass. Take it from someone who does work for Senators/Congressmen, etc. - and who has booked a certain Senator/Pres. Candidate using her usual psuedonym - anyone who receives Secret Service protection is PROHIBITED from making travel arrangements on-line anywhere you stupid idiot! You actually believe that crap or did you just decide to put it up there?!

  21. One thing that has become very clear over the past few months is that people involved with MLMs (and YTB in particular) are very willing to believe just about anything if it somehow bolsters their confidence in their decision to join. They seem to be seeking some sort of validation all the time..... "...see, if Jenna Bush is using YTB, then I must have made a good decision to join! It looks like I'm not really stupid!"

  26. The sad part about this is that someone made a "funny" about Jenna Bush and her honeymoon. But you know that someone will take that seriously and at some point in time there will be a "special confere3nce call" with a "special guest" saying how great it was to deal with YTB.

  36. Thanks anon---not much of an agency, but an agency nonetheless. Not 20 years in the business, but still. Not three locations but one...

So there may be some truth to it!

    ReplyDelete
  37. You're right knows!, it doesn't look like much of an agency. But if she made it to 2008, then she was in business for 22 years.

What I like about John's blog is that all comments are posted, whereas Doug censors his like a Pravda editor. I tried to question Doug's assertion that the 366 shareholders on record only counted YTB employees who owned stock. (Just Picture it Now post on April 11, 2008) That would be impossible since YTB only had 315 employees at the time. Needless to say, Doug wouldn't allow that comment to post.

Dr. Seligman is a fraud. It looks like Mrs. May just embellished her resume to a large degree.

You are correct. You can check it all out at whitepages.com. It's in black and white for all to see. Same address, same phone number. It's public record.

  44. Yes DnB does rely on self reported data. I believe most of the information is true, but I do see a lot of small companies embellish their reported revenue and employees. Even so, the DnB information shows a small travel agency run out of her house. Not too impressive IMO, and certainly doesn't back up her statements of having 4 offices in large commercial areas.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well, her small agency is most probably a YTB website.
